Edmonton Convention Centre installs largest building-integrated solar in Canada

The Edmonton Convention Centre’s 35-year-old skylights are currently being replaced with sloped solar cells to create the largest building-integrated solar panel installation in Canada. Expected to be completed by next spring, 60 of the 696 panels have already been installed as crews will work through the winter to complete the work as part of a larger $10.8-million modernization project for the building’s atrium.

The roof’s solar cells are expected to generate up to 250,0000-kilowatt hours of energy annually that will be used inside the building. An added bonus, renewable energy is anticipated to save $219,000 on electricity costs and make up for the cost of the renovations in about 22 years.
