Canadian Solar lays off over 100 employees from Guelph facility

Canadian Solar says it is laying off 130 people from its facility in Guelph and moving its focus to research and development.

CTV News Guelph reports that Canadian Solar is still committed to Guelph, despite laying off 130 employees at its Speedvale Avenue plant.

The report added that a spokesperson for the company explained the job cuts to be a result of Canadian Solar seeing a drop in demand for its product.

Canadian Solar still has about 350 people working at the Guelph facility.

“I think that Canadian Solar is adjusting to a world in which they are going to be needing to compete in the whole North American market,” said Guelph’s MPP Liz Sandals in a statement to CTV News Guelph.
