The wider adoption of local renewable energy generation by homeowners can make a significant impact on the effects of climate change.
Edmonton homeowners can benefit from the Change for Climate Solar rebate program, which has received additional funds of $1.96 million as of May 8th.
The City of Edmonton has invested in these rebates to incentivize residential solar installations.
Thanks to the extra investment, the application portal has been reopened, and it is now accepting new applications.
For applicants on the program’s waitlist, their applications will be prioritized and processed based on their order of receipt.
Rebate funding is now available to assist Edmonton residents with the cost of solar panel installations.
Currently, the City is offering homeowners $0.40/watt towards their system’s cost, which roughly covers 15% of the associated costs of going solar.
Rebate stacking is also permitted with Canada’s Greener Homes Grant, up to a maximum of 100% of the total investment made by the homeowner.
Newly constructed homes and residential buildings are also eligible for a City of Edmonton rebate of $0.30/watt.
Solar system owners who were unable to participate in the program when it reached capacity in September 2022, but who went ahead with their installation, might still be eligible to benefit.
They can submit a rebate application as long as their systems are still within the one-year window of their interconnection approval date and all other program eligibility requirements are met.
1,211 Edmonton residents have already participated in the Solar Program.

By taking advantage of the program, residents will not only protect themselves from the ups and downs of energy prices, but they will also reduce their carbon footprint and positively impact their community.
