Conklin Métis Local 193 and Canadian Solar will be partnering to bring solar energy to three hamlets in southern Alberta, powering approximately 20,000 homes a year.

Although the projects are located outside of Conklin, the money received by Conklin Métis will be spent within the community to address needs, said David Berrade, Business and Industry Manager with the Conklin Recourse Development Advisory Committee.

This could include addressing ongoing housing issues in the area, he said.

A study released last month from the Alberta Rural Development Network estimates the community needs at least 40 to 45 new housing units.

It also suggested an expansion of social services, specifically with employment and adequate housing.
