The Route 66 Welcome Center near Conway, MO will soon have solar panels replacing existing pavement. The Idaho-based startup Solar Roadways is preparing to install the technology before the winter months.

Solar Roadways will start with the center’s sidewalks. The hope is to expand into the parking lots and roadways.

This is part of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Road to Tomorrow Initiative.
