Pakistani solar association calls for 20-GW solar mission goal – report

Tsvetomira Tsanova — The Pakistan Solar Association’s (PSA) chairman is calling for a 20-GW solar target as part of the Pakistan Solar Mission Plan 2015-26, following the example of India’s National Solar Mission.

Faiz Muhammad Bhutta told the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) on Sunday that the programme could be divided in three four-year stages.

The plan could include utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, concentrated solar power (CSP) and solar pumps, along with efforts to ease access to solar off-grid and hybrid power for solar lighting when it comes to houses and roads.

The Punjab Chief Minister has already launched a project to bring solar power to 6,000 primary schools over to solar energy. The PSA chairman applauded that effort and said, as cited by the APP, that it should be expanded to hospitals, basic health units and “other sectors of society”.
