Morocco issues RfP for 50-MW solar PV park – report

The Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN) has launched a Request for Proposals (RfP) for the installation of a 50-MW solar park in Morocco, French business magazine L’Usine Nouvelle said on Wednesday.

The photovoltaic (PV) facility will be installed in the southern province of Ourazazate as part of Morocco’s national solar plan.

Earlier this year, MASEN chose a tie-up led by ACWA Power International of Saudi Arabia to build around 350 MW of concentrating solar power (CSP) capacity in Ouarzazate. The public agency is later this year expected to begin pre-qualification for two 500-MW solar projects, according to a report by local newspaper Le Matin.

Under its solar energy programme, Morocco aims to add at least 2,000 MW of capacity by 2020. At present, the country meets 95% of its primary power demand through external sources. Its goal is to source from renewables 42% of its power by the end of the decade.
