Unifor reached a $1.5B deal with Fiat Chrysler — build electric vehicles in Windsor, ON

The Unifor union says it reached a tentative three-year deal with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in Canada that could see it invest $1.5 billion in plug-in or hybrid electric vehicles and add 2,000 jobs.

The agreement, which narrowly averted a strike, comes as the federal and provincial governments are also in talks to support the carmaker’s Windsor, Ontario plant.

Unifor recently signed a three-year agreement with Ford Motor including an announcement that an Oakville, Ontario factory would be retooled to make electric vehicles.
