SunPower Corporation is an American energy company that designs and manufactures crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells and solar panels based on an all-back-contact solar cell invented at Stanford University.
Government policy has a huge effect on the growth of solar power and few companies demonstrate that relationship better than SunPower. The company has been hurt by major policy changes in the U.S. and China and expects lower deployments this year.
The San Jose, Calif.-based company’s shares tumbled 6.5% in early trading on Wednesday after SunPower announced strong third-quarter earnings but reduced guidance for how much solar power it would deploy this year.
