Ontario — Brightworks Energy, a pioneering sustainable energy solutions provider, is proud to announce its instrumental role in the development and completion of the first-ever Solar Canopy Project in Canada at Audi Oakville.

This revolutionary development is set to redefine the efficiency of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging and represents a significant step forward in the ongoing growth of the electric vehicle movement.

We’re incredibly proud to have played a pivotal role in realizing the Audi Oakville Solar Canopy Project,” said Bobby MacCannell, President and Founder of Brightworks Energy Inc. “As the first of its kind in Canada, this groundbreaking initiative represents a significant milestone for Brightworks Energy and the broader movement towards sustainable energy solutions in our country.”

The Solar Canopy Charging Station, now operational at Audi Oakville, employs cutting-edge bifacial solar panel technology. Unlike traditional solar panels, which only utilize one side, bifacial panels capture sunlight from both sides, leveraging reflected light from the environment and the vehicles beneath the canopy.

This results in significantly increased solar power generation and overall efficiency.

Over the course of a year, the Solar Canopy is estimated to provide an impressive 670 full charges, completely independent from the Provincial power grid. This level of autonomy showcases the potential of solar power and exemplifies the positive environmental impact that dealerships can achieve through renewable energy solutions.

“This achievement represents Audi’s determination to lead the way in sustainable mobility and marks the beginning of a transformative journey toward our Go2Zero Commitment, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030,” Nadeer Rana, General Manager of Audi Oakville said at the ceremony. “By harnessing the power of the sun and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we are creating a pathway to a greener tomorrow.”

Brightworks Energy played a crucial role in bringing this innovative project to fruition. The company’s expertise in sustainable energy consulting and solutions was key to successfully integrating this state-of-the-art technology into the dealership’s existing infrastructure.

In a testament to Ontario’s manufacturing prowess and its growing role in the renewable energy sector, the majority of parts used in the construction of the Solar Canopy came directly from Ontario. This helped stimulate the local economy and minimized the environmental impact often associated with transporting materials. It’s a prime example of how a project can innovate and support its local economy and environment.

Brightworks Energy is proud to contribute to this goal and continues to support initiatives that prioritize sustainability and carbon neutrality.

“At Brightworks Energy, we firmly believe that projects like the Solar Canopy are the future of the auto industry, and we’re excited to lead the way towards a greener, more sustainable tomorrow,” added Mr. MacCannell.

As the electric vehicle movement grows, solutions like the Solar Canopy become increasingly essential. Dealerships across Canada and beyond can benefit from this innovative approach, reducing their reliance on conventional power sources and making significant strides toward a more sustainable future.

Brightworks Energy is excited to be at the forefront of this transformative journey and looks forward to collaborating on similar projects in the future.

  1. I don’t believe this is the first solar canopy / solar carport project in Canada. There are several solar carports in Calgary alone at vehicle dealerships that provide protection and EV charging to electric vehicles…

    1. You are right about the existence of solar carports in Canada, but there is a distinctive difference with the Audi Oakville Solar Canopy Project.

This is the first that has been branded as an “outdoor showroom,” with full brand representation and branding, utilizing local and sustainable materials. It’s not merely a charging solution but a holistic brand experience that integrates cutting-edge technology with a commitment to sustainability.
