Rive is following in the steps of his brother Lyndon Rive, who left the company in May.

Lyndon Rive left Tesla in May, saying he planned to develop a new business venture.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk helped back the Rive brothers start SolarCity with a $10 million investment. It’s important to note that Musk is the cousin of both Rive brothers.

Tesla confirmed that Peter Rive was leaving Tesla “to explore new opportunities”.

The Rive departures, happening in close succession, have raised concerns within the industry after critics previously questioned Tesla’s motivation for the $2.6 billion SolarCity acquisition — a move that was seen as a bailout of that company.
