California — U.S. intelligent solar and energy software solutions provider Tigo Energy is suing a Chinese company over an alleged infringement of a patent related to its rapid shutdown technology.
Tigo Energy is an American private corporation, headquartered in Campbell, California, United States. It provides products, technologies, software, and services to installers, distributors, and original equipment manufacturers within the photovoltaic industry.
Specifically, on August 21, Tigo’s Chinese affiliate, namely Tigo Energy Equipment Trading (Suzhou) Co Ltd, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court against Zhejiang Benyi New Energy Co Ltd, the US company announced on Thursday.
The complaint (Case No. (2024) Hu 73 Zhi Min Chu No. 177) alleges that some of the Chinese company’s rapid shutdown devices infringe on Tigo’s China Patent No. 200880114564.0.
The US firm explains rapid shutdown as a safety function for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on buildings, the purpose of which is to lower the risk of electrical shock to emergency responders.
Founded in Silicon Valley back in 2007, Tigo is engaged in the development and manufacture of smart hardware and software solutions for residential, commercial, and utility-scale solar systems. It is known for its portfolio of module-level power electronics (MLPE) solutions.
