By SeeNews Renewables — Interested parties from Cuba and China are currently holding talks with the government of Jamaica about the possibility of building a solar photovoltaics (PV) assembly facility in the island nation.
The Jamaica Information Service, or JIS News, reported this on Wednesday, citing Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Minister Phillip Paulwell. According to the minister, the country is experiencing an “explosion” in the use of solar power arrays.
Paulwell noted, as quoted by JIS News, that Jamaica should realise the particular project so it could make use of its access to the North American market and start exporting panels to the US.
As previously announced, US-based WRB Enterprises Inc is expected to complete a 20-MW solar park in Content Village, Clarendon. In June 2015, the company agreed a USD-47-million (EUR 43.7m) loan from the Overseas Private Investment Corp (OPIC) for that project.
