U.S. to spend $105.5m in new funding to advance solar technologies

The U.S. Department of Energy will spend $105.5 million to fund 70 solar projects.

Under DOE’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), the fund will advance both solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar thermal power (CSP) technologies.

The funding will be geared towards facilitating the secure integration of those technologies into the U.S. electricity grid.

It will also support efforts that prepare the workforce for the solar industry’s future needs.

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), which has been at odds with the Trump administration over tariffs imposed on imports of solar panels, cheered the news by calling it “a positive step in strengthening this important public-private relationship between the federal government and the American solar industry.”
