NEW YORK — Penton’s The California Renewables Rush conference will explore the nation-leading transformation of the utility and energy industry in California.

California’s utilities must procure 1,325,000 megawatts of energy storage by 2020. They will be fully reliant on renewable energy by 2030. This will make California’s electric power sector a global leader in the world’s race to a low-carbon economy and sustainable energy future.

The Edison Electric Institute, the voice of America’s major utilities, and Southern California Edison, one of the nation’s largest energy companies, are among those supporting the event as sponsors.

Penton’s one-day conference, “The California Renewables Rush” will bring together utilities, policy makers, economists, business leaders, environmentalists and utility suppliers and manufacturers from across the nation to discuss the policy and technological challenges ahead and the economic impact on the state of California. “The California Renewables Rush” will take place on April 6, 2016 in San Francisco.

Industry thought leaders that will be speaking at The California Renewables Rush include:

Commissioner Colette D. Honorable, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
J. Andrew Murphy, Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning, Edison International
Constance H. Lau, President & CEO, Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc.
Commissioner David Hochschild, CA Energy Commission
Arlen Orchard, CEO and General Manager, Sacramento Municipal Utility District

Marty Rosenberg, Editorial Director, The Energy Times and Event Chair said, “The renewable energy mandate, coupled with the storage mandate, will work hand-in-glove to make the California electric power sector a global leader in the world’s race to a low-carbon economy and sustainable energy future. Regulations must allow the implementation of these mandates, new infrastructure must be built and paid for, the grid must be modernized and adapted and new technologies must be envisioned, creating a ‘California Energy Lab’ that will rival the California Gold Rush of a century ago in its impact on the state’s economy and culture.”

Rosenberg added, “‘The California Renewables Rush’ will be a one-day trip to the new gold fields of California. We will explore the innovation taking place that will lead to a cleaner, growing energy sector and a more sustainable climate.”
