SeeNews Renewables — SolarCity Corp accounts for 34% of all residential solar installations in the US during the first half of 2015, according to the September update of GTM Research’s US PV Leaderboard.

Vivint Solar Inc (NYSE:VSLR) was the runner-up with a 12% share, followed by Sunrun Inc (NASDAQ:RUN) with 3%, as well as NRG Home Solar and Sungevity with 2% each. Sungevity fell to the fifth position after being the number three installer for most of 2014, GTM noted.

All in all, there are no newcomers to the top five. GTM mentioned that the five top installers continue to expand the gap between them and the rest of the sector players.

GTM senior solar analyst Nicole Litvak commented that vertical integration is a key factor when it comes to quickly expanding in the residential solar market, having in mind that both Sunrun and NRG Home Solar took over certain installers last year.

The research firm believes that the US residential solar market will exceed 2 GW in 2015.
