ONTARIO — NRStor, together with the Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation, Six Nations Group, Aecon Concessions, and Sitka Power Inc., announced the award by the Independent Electricity Systems Operator (IESO) of the Simcoe Battery Project, a 150-megawatt, 1,200-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) to be developed in Norfolk County, Ontario.
The project represents a significant milestone for Ontario’s electricity system and Indigenous economic participation, with 50 per cent ownership held by Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation and Six Nations Group, thus playing a leading role in delivering long-term economic benefits for their communities.
The Simcoe Battery Project was one of three projects selected through a competitive IESO procurement process, resulting in an executed 20-year capacity contract.
Developed in collaboration with Hydro One, the facility will support the local electricity system in the Norfolk-Bloomsburg area by delivering stored electricity during periods of high demand. Leveraging existing infrastructure, it will improve reliability, help meet growing electricity demand and support Ontario’s long-term energy objectives.
