BOSTON | March 30, 2015 — ci design, inc. has been selected to lead the design and planning of a new 110 MW photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing facility for the Al-Afandi Group, the first fully integrated PV panel manufacturing facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The first-of-its-kind project will combine all stages of the PV panel manufacturing process within one facility, including wafer, cell and module manufacturing, in order to streamline production and to compete on cost in the growing solar marketplace.

“We are honored to be awarded this groundbreaking project and continue our work in the Middle East,” stated ci design Vice President, Chris Ladd, AIA.

Partnering with PV Tech Group (Winchester, MA), Avid Engineers (Boston, MA) and DAR Engineers (Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), ci design will oversee the full scope of the project, leading design efforts for the 24,800 sq. meter facility located in the Industrial Valley of the King Abdullah Economic City in Jeddah, KSA.

“As experts in PV manufacturing technologies and project management, we look forward to making Al-Afandi a pioneer in PV manufacturing in the region. We are delighted to be working with ci design and the Al-Afandi Group on this prestigious project,” stated PV Tech Group President, Greg Knight.

Design is set to begin in spring 2015.
