SALT LAKE CITY | SolarCity —
SolarCity will open a regional corporate headquarters in Salt Lake City. The company is hiring at a temporary location initially as it scouts for a location for a large corporate campus. SolarCity expects to create thousands of new jobs over the next ten years, primarily in professional services functions such as accounting, finance, human resources, legal, marketing and sales support.

“SolarCity is leading a solar revolution and we are empowering communities with clean energy and sustainable job creation. We hope to attract many professionals in Utah and work alongside Utah policymakers to strengthen the state’s environmental policies and clean air initiatives,” said Brendon Merkley, Executive Vice President, Customer Operations of SolarCity, who was raised in Utah and is an alumnus of Brigham Young University.

In addition to an educated talent pool and favorable economic conditions, Utah was ranked #1 in Forbes Magazine’s annual The Best States for Business Study in 2014. SolarCity also chose the Beehive State for the high quality of life and year-round outdoor sports culture.

“SolarCity’s choice of Utah for its regional headquarters is a reflection of the vibrant growth of alternative energy companies in the state,” said Val Hale, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “The creation of thousands of jobs over the coming decade is likely only a beginning.”

Recently celebrating its 9th anniversary on July 4, SolarCity provides approximately one out of every three solar systems in the U.S. and employs more than 12,000 people nationwide. SolarCity has already completed installations at the Utah National Guard and Utah Olympic Oval.

“I welcome SolarCity to Salt Lake City,” said Mayor Ralph Becker. “We are excited to have SolarCity choose us for a regional headquarters. Their work will help us achieve our aggressive goals to have clean, affordable renewable energy in the region.”

SolarCity has begun recruiting for roles in its temporary downtown location at 175 East 400 South, 7th Floor, Salt Lake City. Those interested in applying can visit http://www.solarcity.com/careers/.
